One of the focus areas for my team was to improve the Health and Safety performance and to make the appropriate resources available.

After all in, my book, continuous improvement of Safety is equally as important as productive gains as we all know the consequences of injury to staff and customers are not fathomable.

To this end, as part of our Lean Implementation, we positively identified our safety reps to participate in the Lean Practitioner Certification with SA Partners.

Our aim was to align the Safety team with the overall strategic goal of work safe, think safe, home safe every day.

The alignment to our strategy and tools such as 5S, Visual Management, plus Value Stream Mapping techniques and root cause analysis are effective in supporting safety systems and development of a positive mind-set to improving Safety.

As part of the Lean Practitioner training, a Learn by Doing project is worked upon and assessed as part of the LERC certification. A number of the Safety Reps are making their projects “safety themed”.

For example Malcolm Davis has undertaken a project to close the gap on any areas that require attention, to share lessons learnt and developing a road map to build capability across the network.

We see this as more than an investment of 4 days of training, more so a chance to equip our teams with world class training working on a practical and meaningful project working toward zero harm to customers and employees in the future.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
